OPA WIRE, Nov 3 (OPA) — Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi stated on Monday that agricultural restrictions following EU accession must include clear review and exit conditions rather than permanent exclusions. The European Commission proposed last month to exclude certain Ukrainian agricultural goods, including wheat and grains, from the EU market even after full membership due to pressure from member states.

"We understand the concerns of European farmers, and we are ready for an open, practical discussion," Koretskyi told the Euronews Enlargement Summit. "Transitional measures can be part of enlargement, but they must address specific risks. And be appropriate, and have clear review and exit conditions." He emphasized that such measures cannot become a permanent restriction or a subset of the single market.

Koretskyi noted that Ukrainian farmers face heavy investments to meet strict EU food standards while simultaneously rebuilding infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks. Since taking office as prime minister in July, Ukraine's accession bid has gained momentum, leading to a joint task force with the Commission to accelerate negotiations alongside frontrunners Montenegro, Albania, and Moldova.

Kiev aims to open all remaining negotiating chapters this year and establish conditions to close several during the Lithuanian presidency in the first half of 2027. Koretskyi stressed that Ukraine is not seeking shortcuts to membership, but rather a credible, merit-based path with clear milestones and timely decisions as targets are met.
