Manchester United Hosts Roma in Champions League Amid Strict Security

سرویس بین‌الملل اوپا، ۱۲ آبان (اوپا) — Manchester United and Roma renew their long-standing European rivalry at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening. The fixture brings back memories of past quarter-final encounters marked by supporter clashes in 2007 and 2008, prompting heavy police deployments around Manchester to prevent security incidents.

Roma arrives in England carrying a dismal historical record, having failed to win any of their last 16 away trips to the country with six draws and 10 losses. The Italian side has also conceded in their last 32 Champions League away matches, representing the longest active run in Europe's premier club competition.

Italian club hopes rest heavily on Dutch forward Donyell Malen, who leads Europe's top five leagues in scoring for 2026 with 22 goals in Serie A since joining in January. Manchester United's defense faces a stern test against Malen's direct pace under the floodlights at Old Trafford, where home supporters are reportedly planning a green and gold balloon protest before kick-off.

In Spain, Aston Villa takes on Barcelona at a rain-soaked Camp Nou. Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon, who joined the Catalan club for £70 million in the summer, is expected to start after registering three goals and five assists in 13 appearances this term. Villa manager Unai Emery relies on Nicolas Jackson, who has netted three Champions League goals and five in the Premier League following Ollie Watkins' departure.
